Pointalism draws pixels using three partially overlapping circles. Each circle is cyan, magenta and yellow. The size of the circle is based on the strength of that colour component in the original image pixel. Up close it looks like this would be horrid. From further away the images are quite pleasing. Due to the remaining whiteness of the paper, the resulting image is quite a bit lighter than the source.
